In this module, you will learn how to set up relevant feeds in SGS Digicomply to monitor regulatory topics and market developments.
ℹ️ There are two assignments focused on creating feeds for regulatory Horizon Scanning.
For each exercise, you will find an Answer link that directs you to an article explaining different approaches for identifying and setting up the correct feeds.
Exercise 1: Monitor Developments in a Specific Country (Market)
In this exercise, you will focus on one country - Singapore - and set up different feeds to monitor relevant regulatory areas of interest as a Regulatory user.
Assignment A: Create a General Feed for the Market – Singapore
- Perform a search for Market: Singapore.
- Once the search is complete, save it and name it “Singapore – General.”
- Do not set up any notifications for this feed.
- Locate your newly created feed under the Feeds tab.
Assignment B: Create a Specific Feed for WTO Notifications
- Create a new search using the same filter (Market: Singapore) and add the Source: WTO Documents Online (Notifications).
- Enrich the search by including Product Category: Beverages and additional products of interest such as energy drinks, snacks, and potato chips.
- Group these products together to be notified whenever any appear in a future post.
- Enable Daily notifications for this feed, scheduled at 08:00.
Assignment C: Create a Feed for the Main Regulatory Body in Singapore
- Open the previously saved search from the Feeds tab and click 'Edit'.
- Replace the previous source (WTO) with Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore.
- Use the 'Save as a new feed' option in the feed editing toolbar at the bottom to create this as a new feed.
Hint: This allows you to monitor updates directly from Singapore’s main regulatory authority.

Assignment D: Organize Your Feeds into a Folder
-
In the Feeds tab, create a new folder named “Singapore.”
-
Move the three newly created feeds (Singapore – General, WTO Notifications, and Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore) into this folder.
The Answers to the assignments for Exercise 1 can be found here.
Exercise 2: Monitor Developments on a Specific Substance or Ingredient of Interest
In this exercise, the focus shifts from monitoring a single market to exploring techniques for tracking a specific substance - in this case, xylitol - on a global level.
Assignment A: Create a Search for “Xylitol”.
- Perform a search for “xylitol.”
- Include it as both a Smart Search term and as a Substance.
- Group these together so that both are included in the search query.
- Apply a filter to display only Post Type: Scientific.
- Add an additional keyword filter: “cancer.”

(This is what your search should look like before adding the Post Type: Scientific filter and the additional keyword: cancer.)
Assignment B: Create a Feed Focused on EFSA Publications
- Edit the previous search to create a similar feed, this time focused on the Source: EFSA Publications.
- Use the Save as New Feed option (as described in previous exercises).
- Set your notification preference to Daily.
Assignment C: Create a Feed Monitoring Global Regulations
- Edit the previous search again to create a new version focused on Regulations across all global markets.
- Use the 'Save as New Feed' option.
- Remove the keyword “cancer”, as it is no longer relevant for this feed.
- Create a new folder named “Sweetener Watch.”
This concludes the exercise.
You now have a folder that monitors a specific ingredient-xylitol-on a global level, covering:
- Scientific publications
- Global regulatory developments
- A targeted source (EFSA Publications)
