How to Compare MRLs Across Multiple Countries

Visualizing and analyzing restricted substance limits for different markets side-by-side.

The Restricted Substances database allows you to perform a gap analysis by searching across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously. This is ideal for checking if a single product formulation meets the requirements of all your target markets.

Configuring the Multi-Market Search

  1. Select Markets: In the Market filter, you are not limited to one choice. Select all the countries or regions you wish to compare (e.g., United States, Canada, EU, Codex).

  2. Select Product & Substance: Enter the specific commodity (e.g., Flour) and substance (e.g., Benzoyl Peroxide) you are investigating.

Best Practice: Manageable Data Sets

Recommendation: When searching across multiple countries, it is highly suggested to limit your search to a specific Product or Substance.

  • Why? If you leave the product/substance fields blank, the system may return thousands of records spread across multiple pages, making it difficult to visualize the comparison effectively.

Interpreting the Results

The search results will display a consolidated table row for each substance/commodity pair.

  • Matching Limits Column: This section displays the limits for all your selected markets side-by-side.

  • Visual Flags: Each limit is marked with the country's flag, making it easy to spot differences (e.g., Canada: 150 ppm vs. Codex: 75 mg/kg vs. USA: GMP).
